Bio Highlights
“As I continue to evolve as a person, my art continues to evolve, taking new directions, influenced and inspired by my life’s experiences. This for me is what “bio” is all about. Yes there are the dates, degrees and grounded statistics, but the real bio is who I am as a person and how I continue to grow, explore and connect with the world I live in.
My art also allows me to share my continuing exploration of universal connections between human spirituality, the non-human animal world and harmony with the environment. Since 2000 I have chosen to create monotypes, monoprints, and paintings using water-soluble environmentally friendly media.”
Marian Osher’s multiple volunteer experiences in Montana for the Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) not only inspired artwork to raise awareness of the Yellowstone Buffalo but also fueled her desire to learn more about diverse environmental issues. She highlighted some of these environmental red flags in “Earth Matters”, a solo show of monotype prints at the Washington Printmakers Gallery (September, 2007). “Dream Quest”, her solo show of wall hangings and paintings with dream catchers at Ceres Gallery (March, 2008), linked environmental issues with spiritual connections. She combines her fascination with the urban world of New York City and her experiences as an eco artist in “Seen Unseen”, a solo show of mixed media paintings (New Art Center, NYC, March, 2010). “Fearless Flying”, her show of paintings and wall hangings, shares how her connection to nature helped her to combat her fear of flying. (Ceres Gallery, NYC, April 27 May 22, 2010).
In 2004, she created a body of artwork that explores the connection between kaleidoscopic images and music. In 2001, Osher developed a series of jewel-toned mandalas about the universal connections of diverse cultures.
Osher feels that her art has helped her to become a more spiritual person, enabling her ”to feel the connection that we have with each other and with nature.” She continues to create artwork that deepens and shares this connection.
Marian Osher, a printmaker and painter, born in Philadelphia, has lived in Montgomery County, Maryland most of her life. She received her BA from the University of Maryland and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from George Washington University. Osher's artwork has been shown in numerous exhibits in the U.S. as well as in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Museum of Modern Art in Argentina and shows in Brazil, Belgium and India. She has had twelve solo shows since 1987. Osher is included in the Green Art Guide and the Women Environmental Artist’s Directory. In 2007, Environmental Defense chose Osher’s artwork for the cover of their Pocket Seafood Selector, which helps consumers to make environmentally sound seafood choices. The Washington Printmakers Gallery has represented her since 1985. She has been an artist in the Ceres Gallery and the Contemporary Art Network (CAN) since 2005. In addition to working as a full time artist, Osher is a private art instructor who guides students in college art portfolio development and helps them to launch careers in various fields of art.
